The city’s name, “Taif,” comes from the Arabic word ṭāfa, meaning “to encircle,” Its name shows  how its mountains surround it like protective arms.

Before the rise of Islam, Taif was home to the tribe of Thaqif, one of the prominent tribes in Arabia. This  city was also known as the most religious center for the Arabs, as it housed the temple of Al-Lat, one of the idols worshipped ,where idles were placed before Islam.

When Islam came in Saudi Arabia , Taif gained special spiritual  and religious importance. The Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) visited Taif in 620 CE after facing Oppression  in Makkah.Because the people of Makkah were not happy with our beleoved prophet. He hoped to find support from the Thaqif tribe for his divine message.As Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) was sent to them as a messenger of Allah . However, the people of Taif deny to accept him as messenger and treated him harshly, throwing stones and wounding him. Despite this painful experience , the Prophet responded with forgiveness and prayers for their guidance. This event became a timeless lesson for all the people  in patience, perseverance, and mercy.

As the time passed, when Islam spread in the heart of Arabia, the people of Taif embraced the faith wholeheartedly and accept him as the messenger of Allah . From then on, the city became a symbol of spiritual transformation and hope.

Nature and Surroundings Of Taif:

Taif is Situated about 1,700 meters (5,600 feet) above sea level, Taif enjoys a cool and pleasant climate throughout the year. The city is surrounded by the Al-Sarawat Mountains, giving it breathtaking scenery and a pleasant ,refreshing breeze that is why it is also known as  “the Summer Capital of Saudi Arabia.”

In ancient times, Taif served as a summer resort for Makkah’s residents and still plays the same role today. During the hot season specially in Makkah , many Saudis and visitors try to move to Taif’s green valleys, orchards, and scenic hills.

The Famous Taif Roses:

One of the city’s most remarkable treasures is its Rosa damascena, commonly known as the Taif rose.
